Inside Melbourne’s Street Art Culture: A Story of Creation and Loss

Not Your Average Neighbour is a powerful short film that explores Melbourne’s street art culture through the story of Steve, a graffiti artist whose commissioned mural is destroyed before completion. The documentary captures both the vibrancy of the city’s urban art scene and the emotional resilience of its creators.

Supporting Camera & Lighting

I contributed to the production as part of the crew, supporting the shoot and early stages of post-production. On set, I assisted with camera and lighting setup during one of the key filming days, working alongside a small team using DSLR and professional lighting equipment.

I also briefly appeared in a background role during a no-audio B-roll setup, stepping in as a customer to help fill out the scene.

Creating the First Rough Cut

My involvement extended into post-production, where I created an early rough cut of the film. While the final version was significantly refined by the lead editors, this early cut helped establish the story structure and tone, providing a strong starting point for the team. In addition to this, I also provided the production team with a number of screenshots that were used as B-roll in the final edit, helping to enhance the film’s visual texture.

Festival Success & Recognition

The film went on to be featured in multiple international festivals and received the Best Editing award at the 10th Toronto Indie Shorts Festival in 2022. I'm proud to be listed on IMDb as part of the production team, credited as a Production Assistant, and to have played a part in bringing this creative vision to life.
